A letter,
not a mission statement.
How a lifetime of sensitive skin, an emptied bathroom cupboard, and a lot of slow rendering became the jar you're probably holding right now.
Dear You,
Many people ask how Brant and I found our way to tallow. For me, it began with years of sensitive skin — rashes, hives, constant itch — and the hope that there had to be a simpler way to feel comfortable day to day.
As a child I was allergic to grasses, flowers and animals. My skin grew thinner and drier over time, and like many, I relied on “gentle” creams that weren't. In adulthood, flare-ups returned and prescriptions became a cycle. I finally emptied the cupboard, read every label, and realised how many harsh extras were hiding in products that sounded healthy.
I started again with what my skin seemed to recognise: tallow.
We work with grass-fed kidney suet, rendered low and slow four times with filtered water and Celtic salt, then blended — never whipped. No fillers. No synthetic fragrance. Just a clean, steady base that feels like skin.
What began at our kitchen bench became Earth Child Essentials — a small, family-run workshop in Australia. We make in small batches, label plainly, and keep the bar simple: if we wouldn't use it on our own family, it doesn't go in the jar.
When I'm not at the bench, I work in early childhood. I see how overwhelming skin decisions can be for families, and how much clarity helps. Our aim is to offer that clarity: ingredient integrity, transparent process, and products that fit calmly into daily life.
Thank you for being here, and for choosing slow craft over shortcuts.
With care,
Lauren (and Brant)
